Obligations in a BDI Agent Architecture

چکیده
This paper presents a conceptual model that adds mental states, capable of dealing with social elements, to BDI architectures. It has long been recognized that social elements enhance multi-agent performance. Ideas for extending BDI architectures to incorporate norms, values and obligations are presented. Norms and values endow multi-agent systems with social attributes thereby facilitating the cooperative behavior of agents. The extension makes use of sets of modal operators for desires and obligations

Towards Socially Sophisticated BDI Agents
We present an approach to social reasoning that integrates prior work on norms and obligations with the BDI approach to agent architectures. Norms and obligations can be used to increase the eficiency of agent reasoning, and their explicit representation supports reasoning about a wide range of behaviour types in a single framework. We propose a modified BDI interpreter loop that takes norms an...
متن کاملFrom Desires, Obligations and Norms to Goals
Traditional models of agents based on Beliefs, Desires and Intentions usually only include either desires or goals. Therefore the process whereby goals arise from desires is given scant attention. In this paper we argue that the inclusion of both desires and goals in the same model can be important, particularly in a Multi-Agent System context, where other sources of individual motivation such ...
متن کاملObligations for Dealing with Agents' Connicts
In this paper, we propose a model in which a formal characterization of obligations is used to constrain BDI agents to a socially eecient behavior in connictual 2x2 games. This model shows how obligations can play the role of providing incentives for self interested agents. The presence of a third BDI agent ensures the respect of obligations so that the parties behave in a socially eecient way.
متن کاملCasuist BDI-Agent: A New Extended BDI Architecture with the Capability of Ethical Reasoning
Since the intelligent agent is developed to be cleverer, more complex, and yet uncontrollable, a number of problems have been recognized. The capability of agents to make moral decisions has become important question, when intelligent agents have developed more autonomous and human-like. In this paper we propose Casuist BDI-Agent architecture which extends the power of BDI architecture. Casuist...
متن کاملA Game Theoretic Approach to Norms and Agents
In recent years, multi-agent systems have become one of the most promising approaches for organizing software. However, the demand for capabilities of autonomous decision making poses some requirements on agent architectures. It is necessary, in fact, that the behavior of an agent be suitably constrained to make it socially compatible with the community of agents. In this paper, we propose a mo...
